Chiapa de corzo

Today we went exploring for a camping spot in Chiapa de Corzo. This is the town where you get the boats up Canyon Sumidero. Unfortunately they have stopped water coming out of the dam to do some repairs down below and the river is dry, so no boat trip on this caravan. Too bad, I have done it before and it is spectacular, deeper than the Grand Canyon. We did want to find a camping spot for future caravans and we lucked out. A large secure lot with washrooms & showers for only 50 pesos a night. Perfect. We decided to move ourselves down here from Sams Club in San Cristobal, as it puts us closer to our next destination by 1 hour.  A 5000 ft drop in altitude over the one hour drive, so it's much warmer tonight. The toll booth between here & San Cristobal has been taken over by masked Indians who are protesting a new road being built across their lands. No, or little, compensation, so they are mad. They charged the same as the toll would be. I gave them twice what they asked for,  and told them I wholeheartedly supported their struggle. This was met with thumbs up and cheers. Hey, goodwill towards Gringos is always a good thing.

  1. Everything all right? SPOT shows you parked up for about 2 hours at the 185D/190 interchange.

Did you spend the night of 2/27 parked up behind a Pemex station?
